Spiritual Counseling

All is well and is unfolding as it should.
- Robert Adams

Are you grappling with the big (existential) questions of life and seeking inner peace while striving to balance your spiritual life with your material goals? I work with adult clients of all belief systems who are motivated to engage in open dialogue and guided self-inquiry. Perhaps by together questioning our assumptions and looking freshly at life as it is, there lay the possibility of finding something new, not touched by time?
While both counselors and life coaches are considered "helping professionals"--and there are certainly many areas of overlap between the two--counselors generally spend more time examining the past and looking for solutions to emotional concerns, while coaches help clients work on their goals for the future and create a new life path. Also the client-coach relationship tends to be less structured and more in the nature of a partnership that is generally the case in the client-counselor relationship.
Pastoral counselors, by contrast, offer spiritual guidance and support clients in meeting life's challenges from specific spiritual, religious, and/or philosophical perspectives. Yet, similar to life coaches, pastoral counselors guide clients in identifying their core values in a process of self-discovery.
As a pastoral counselor, I consider myself more of a facilitator who, rather than working from preconceived theories, assist clients to look directly at what is in this moment. Through this direct looking and mutual inquiry, a space is created in which a fulfilling personal path and authentic solutions to life's challenges may emerge.
My call to this work was the culmination of a 30-year spiritual search during which I explored many paths (Eastern and Western) before my encounter with the work of J. Krishnamurti, Toni Packer, and David Bohm, revealed the non-dual insight that lay at the core of all religions.
